Semrush Competitors in 2026: 5 Alternatives Compared, With Real Prices

Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Surfer, Moz and Adshout compared with Semrush on price and plan limits, read from each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026.

This page compares the main Semrush competitors on what they cost, what their plans include, and who each one suits. Prices and limits were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 11 October 2026. Vendors change plans often, so check the linked pages before you buy.

A disclosure: we make Adshout, one of the tools below. We have tried to keep it to what its own pages state and to say where it is weaker. Where we could not confirm a fact, we say so.

Which Semrush competitor fits which team

  • Ahrefs if backlink research is your main job. Plans start at $129 a month (Lite).
  • SE Ranking if you want a lower price for the same kind of toolkit. Core is $103.20 a month billed annually, or $129 billed monthly.
  • Surfer SEO if your bottleneck is writing and optimising content. Plans start at $49 a month billed yearly (Discovery).
  • Moz Pro if you want a beginner-friendly tool built around Domain Authority. We could not read Moz's current pricing, so check moz.com.
  • Adshout if you want ranked actions to review and approve, not another dashboard. It is in beta and free during the beta.
  • Semrush itself if you need the widest toolset and have someone to use it. Plans start at $139 a month.

What Semrush costs in 2026

To judge any alternative you need the baseline. On Semrush's pricing page the paid plans are:

  • SEO: $139 a month, or $117.33 a month billed annually. 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, position tracking, site audit and AI search performance tracking.
  • Starter: $199 a month, or $165.17 billed annually. Adds 50 AI prompts tracked daily and MCP access.
  • Pro+: $299 a month, or $248.17 billed annually. 15 websites, 1,500 keywords tracked daily, historical SEO data, content optimisation and cannibalisation analysis.
  • Advanced: $549 a month, or $455.67 billed annually. 40 websites, 5,000 keywords tracked daily, share of voice and API integration.

There is also a free plan with one demo project and 10 reports a day, a custom Enterprise tier, and a seven-day free trial on the main paid plans. Extra users are an add-on from $45 a month.

The cost question is rarely the sticker price. It is whether someone on your team will use 5 websites and 500 daily keywords, and act on what the reports say.

Ahrefs: the usual first alternative

Ahrefs' pricing is built around projects, tracked keywords and credits:

  • Lite: $129 a month. 5 projects, 750 tracked keywords, 6 months of historical data, 1 user.
  • Standard: $249 a month. 20 projects, 2,000 tracked keywords, 2 years of history.
  • Advanced: $449 a month. 50 projects, 5,000 tracked keywords, 5 years of history.
  • Enterprise: $1,499 a month, annual commitment.

Ahrefs is best known for its backlink data, and that reputation is why many teams choose it over Semrush. We have not tested index sizes ourselves, so treat that as the market view, not our measurement. Both Semrush and Ahrefs now sell AI-search tracking too: Semrush lists AI visibility reports and prompt monitoring, and Ahrefs lists tracked AI prompts per plan and a separate Brand Radar product from $199 a month. So "traditional tools do not do AI search" is no longer a safe claim. For a longer comparison see our Ahrefs alternatives guide.

SE Ranking: the lower-priced all-rounder

SE Ranking lists two self-serve plans:

  • Core: $103.20 a month billed annually ($129 monthly). 2,000 tracked keywords a day, 100 AI prompts a day, 10 projects, 1 manager seat.
  • Growth: $223.20 a month billed annually ($279 monthly). 5,000 tracked keywords a day, 250 AI prompts a day, 30 projects, 3 manager seats.

It advertises a 14-day free trial with no credit card. The limits on tracked keywords are higher than the entry plans at Semrush and Ahrefs, which is the reason to look at it if price per tracked keyword matters.

Surfer SEO: for the writing side only

Surfer focuses on content rather than the full SEO stack. Billed yearly, Discovery is $49 a month (120 documents created or optimised, 10 pages tracked), Standard is $99 (360 documents, WordPress and Google Docs integrations) and Pro is $182 (internal linking, cannibalisation report). It does not replace a backlink or site-audit tool, so most teams run it next to something else.

Moz Pro: a long-standing, beginner-friendly option

Moz Pro is known for Domain Authority, a score many SEOs use as a quick read on a site's strength. It is generally considered easier to learn than Semrush or Ahrefs. We could not confirm its current plans and prices, so we are not quoting them here.

Adshout: ranked actions you approve

Adshout is our own product, and it is built differently from the tools above. Its agents page lists six agents: Keyword Research, Technical SEO, Content Optimisation, Backlink Monitoring, Competitor Tracking and an SEO Growth agent that ranks what to do next. The idea is that you review and approve ranked actions instead of reading dashboards.

What to know before choosing it:

  • It is in beta. The pricing page shows $0 during beta with no card needed, and says post-beta pricing is not yet published.
  • It is new. We do not yet publish customer ranking results, so the fair test is whether the actions it proposes are ones you would approve.
  • We do not claim a backlink index or keyword database that matches Semrush or Ahrefs. If deep historical data is your main need, use one of them.

How to choose

  • You have an SEO specialist and need depth: Semrush or Ahrefs. The money is justified when someone uses the data every week.
  • You need to track many keywords on a tighter budget: compare SE Ranking's limits first.
  • Content is your bottleneck: add Surfer to whichever main tool you use.
  • You have no SEO hire and want the next steps decided for you: try an agent-based tool such as Adshout during its beta and judge the proposed actions yourself.

Whatever you pick, a tool does not rank a page by itself. It needs a page that answers the search better than the ones above it, links to that page, and time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are Semrush's biggest competitors in 2026?+
The tools most often compared with Semrush are Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Moz Pro and Surfer SEO, plus newer agent-based tools such as Adshout. Ahrefs and SE Ranking are the closest in features.
What is the cheapest Semrush alternative?+
On the vendors' own pricing pages (11 October 2026), Surfer SEO starts at $49 a month billed yearly but covers content only. Among full toolkits, SE Ranking Core is $103.20 a month billed annually, against $139 for Semrush's SEO plan and $129 for Ahrefs Lite. Adshout is free during its beta.
Is Ahrefs better than Semrush?+
Ahrefs is best known for backlink data, and Semrush for its breadth of tools and its keyword and competitive research. Which is better depends on whether backlink analysis or all-round coverage matters more to you. Both now offer AI-search tracking.
Do Semrush alternatives cover AI search?+
Several do. Semrush and Ahrefs both list AI visibility or prompt tracking on their pricing pages, SE Ranking lists AI prompts per day, and Surfer has an AI Search Analytics plan. Check the plan limits, since the number of tracked prompts differs widely.
Is Semrush worth it for a small business?+
It can be if someone will use the reports every week. Its cheapest paid plan is $139 a month, so for a small team without an SEO specialist, a lower-priced tool or an agent-based tool may be a better fit.
Is Adshout a Semrush alternative?+
It overlaps on keyword research, technical SEO, content, backlinks and competitor tracking, but works differently: it proposes ranked actions for you to approve. It is in beta, free for now, and has no published post-beta pricing yet.
